Products
Where are your products made?
Most of our products are made in the United States. All ingredients used are sourced in the US or approved countries (several of which are a part of the European Union) that can provide a higher standard of quality than the USA can. Our GEO cans are made in Canada but they are one of the countries approved for sourcing. No ingredients used are sourced in China.
Do your cans contain BPA?
All of our cans are BPA free!
Why would I need to use supplements if I'm already feeding a healthy high end food like Health Extension?
All of our dry recipes are formulated to support nutritional levels for daily maintenance. Supplementation of vitamins and minerals is used to help ensure optimal nutrition, despite environmental or other possible ailments that may arise.
When should I transition my dog from puppy to adult serving sizes?
Puppies can be considered adults once they reach one year of age. However, they are not completely done growing until the age of two. For a highly active, energetic dog it is fine to continue feeding the puppy amounts until the second year as long as they don’t appear overweight. If you feel his/her energy and appetite are becoming more steady they may be ready to have their puppy portions reduced to the adult feeding requirements in the near future. We often recommend that puppies are offered the higher feeding amount until they are at least 12 months so you may need to monitor them and watch their weight in the meantime.
How many servings are in the joint powder container?
The 8oz and 16oz containers contain approx. 15 and 30 scoops on average. The scooper is approximately equivalent to a tablespoon. The weight of the pet and breed will alter these time frames based on serving size.
How does Bovine Colostrum help a pet's immunity?
Bovine colostrum is known to support gut flora by offering a local antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect in the intestinal tract when ingested by other species. Some studies support that colostrum may increase the effectiveness of vaccinations, improve the immune response against certain viruses, bacteria and parasites. Additionally, it also improves bone and muscle function in older pets, and is even used as supportive medicine along with traditional treatments for dogs and cats periodontal disease.
Why do my Little Cups have a green line in it?
Our Little Cups are "all-life stages" recipes and contain a higher mineral concentration to accommodate dogs of all ages. This increased nutrient density can lead to a natural oxidation process, resulting in what appears to be a darker color ring found within the cup. Since we do not use synthetic coloring or artificial additives, you are seeing the product doing exactly what it would do naturally had it been made in your own kitchen.
All Health Extension products go through a series of up to 140 check points to ensure quality safety and palatability. We understand that this may be concerning and want to assure you that the darker color observed is cosmetic only.

GENTLY COOKED
Where are Health Extension Gently Cooked Pouches made?
Our Health Extension Gently Cooked pouches are made in Thailand. We source
from trusted suppliers to provide a safe and nutritious meal for your pet.
What is unique about the preservation method used in Gently Cooked products?
Our Gently Cooked pouches contain no artificial preservatives. Instead, we use
natural ingredients that preserve the food’s freshness and quality. The cooking
process involves heating the ingredients within their sealed pouches, creating a
sterile and shelf-stable product without needing artificial preservatives. Each
recipe includes rosemary, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E, which serve as natural
preservatives. Their antioxidant properties help prevent the oxidation of fats and
oils in the food, ensuring a safe and high-quality meal for your pet.
What is the primary ingredient in Gently Cooked recipes?
The primary meat ingredient in our Gently Cooked recipes is high-quality animal
protein. Chicken, beef, or lamb is always the first ingredient, meaning it’s the most
significant component by weight before cooking. This provides an excellent source
of protein to support your pet’s overall health and well-being.
What other ingredients are in the Gently Cooked recipes?
In addition to protein-rich meat, our recipes include wholesome ingredients like
carrots, pumpkin, brown rice, green peas, and chicken bone broth. These
ingredients contribute to a well-rounded, nutritious meal. The bone broth adds
both flavor and essential nutrients, enhancing hydration and providing additional
health benefits for your pet.
How do you ensure the quality and safety of the Gently Cooked pouches?
At Health Extension, we use a meticulous 3-stage quality check system with 140
checkpoints throughout production:
- Ingredient Inspection: Before ingredients enter our plant, they undergo
rigorous inspections to ensure they meet our quality standards, preventing
substandard ingredients from entering production. - Batch Monitoring: During processing, we continuously monitor each batch
to maintain consistency and quality throughout the production. - Final Product Testing: After production, the finished product undergoes a
final round of quality checks to meet our stringent standards before
reaching your pet’s bowl.
What makes Health Extension’s cooking process unique?
We use handcrafted, small-batch recipes to ensure high quality in every pouch. Our
meals are cooked slowly at low temperatures (around 200+ °F) in a flavorful bone
broth, similar to how you’d prepare a stew in a crock pot. This gentle cooking
process combines direct heat and natural steam, which destroys harmful bacteria
while preserving essential nutrients and flavors, resulting in a wholesome meal
with a taste your pet will love.
How does this cooking method benefit my pet?
This slow-cooking method maintains food quality and nutritional value, providing
your pet with a home-cooked-style meal that’s both nutritious and flavorful. The
result is a safe and satisfying dish that delivers the same benefits as a freshly
prepared meal.

Can I adjust the feeding guidelines when adding water to Health Extension Air-Dried dog food?

based protein. We prioritize quality by sourcing fresh meats and organs and
meticulously crafting recipes to ensure high nutritional value for your pet.

Shelf Life & Storage
What is the shelf life of Health Extension's dry food?
The dry food has a shelf life of 18 months after the date of production. The date of production is printed on the bag. However, it may be good for up to 6 months after the expiration date if stored properly. We do not guarantee any products past their expiration dates.
How long does canned food last in the refrigerator once opened?
If a canned food product is not consumed the same day, the leftover food should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge and can last up to 3 days.
How should I store my pet's dry food?
All of our dry food bags have a zipper closure to ensure optimal freshness. Store in a cool dry place.
How many times a day should I feed my puppy?
There is no one definitive answer to the question of how much to feed a dog. Please take into consideration: breed, age, and activity level. However, general guidelines can be useful in order to make sure your pup is getting the right amount of food and how often he/she needs it. Check out our blog post here, where we go over some guidelines to follow so you can ensure your furry friend is well-nourished.
Can I freeze any of your products to prolong freshness?
While it's ok to put our products in the refrigerator, especially in hot climates, Health Extension does not recommend freezing kibble since there are probiotics sprayed onto the food after cooking and the nutritional values of the product cannot be guaranteed upon defrosting. Also, freezing canned products, treats or toppers is not recommended, since the nutritional values of the product cannot be guaranteed upon defrosting as well. These items are not designed to withstand the low temperatures of a freezer.
Air Dried Shelf Life
Our Air-Dried recipes have an 18-month shelf life from the manufacturing date.
To preserve the quality and flavor of the food, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry location and sealing the bag tightly after each use.
This will help keep the nutrients and natural flavors intact, giving your pet the best experience with every
meal.
Gently Cooked Shelf Life
Health Extension's Gently Cooked Pouches are specifically designed to be shelf-stable, making it easy to store them at room temperature without the need for refrigeration or freezing before they’re opened.
Each pouch has a shelf life of up to 24 months from the date of production, so you
can confidently stock up on your pet’s favorite meals without worrying about them
spoiling or needing freezer space.
Once a pouch is opened, we recommend placing any unused portion in the
refrigerator and using it within 3 days to maintain the food's freshness, flavor, and
nutritional benefits for your pet. This allows you to offer the best quality with every
meal.
We hope this information is helpful, and please feel free to reach out if you have
any more questions.
